你曾經愛上好友的女人過嗎？Eric Clapton 有，對方是披頭四 George Harrison 的妻子 Pattie Boyd，在這段愛錯人的低潮期，他與一群好友組團「Derek and the Dominos」，1970年發行的專輯《Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs》日後成為藍調搖滾的經典，多首情歌因 Pattie Boyd 而作，封面也是象徵他的繆思，在視覺與聽覺上都緊緊纏繞一段終將消逝的往日情。

Eric Clapton過去曾參與的樂團包括 Cream、Blind Faith、Delaney & Bonnie and Friends，歷經多次解散後，Eric Clapton 邀請一群音樂人好友組成「Derek and the Dominos」藍調搖滾樂團，成員包括鍵盤手兼主唱 Bobby Whitlock、鼓手 Jim Gordon、貝斯手 Carl Radle。
團名來自第一場演唱會的介紹失誤，主持人將暫時性的團名「Eric & The Dynamos」唸成「Derek and the Dominos」，於是將錯就錯。Eric Clapton 有意隱姓埋名，以沒有名人鑑別度的團名「Derek and the Dominos」低調避開聚光燈的追蹤。

《Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs》是 Derek and the Dominos 唯一一張錄音室專輯，專輯核心是 Eric Clapton 的感情生活，70年代他瘋狂愛上 George Harrison 的妻子 Pattie Boyd，收錄其中的名曲〈Layla〉描寫他拜倒在 Pattie Boyd 石榴裙的故事，被視為 Eric Clapton 最偉大的音樂成就。

專輯封面出自法國藝術家 Frandsen De Schonberg，他是樂團在法國巡演時寄宿的友人之父，Eric Clapton 選擇這張畫作的原因很單純，因為畫中女子讓他想起 Pattie Boyd-Harrison。

英國模特兒、攝影師 Pattie Boyd（1944~）是搖滾界最著名的繆思之一，曾經嫁給 George Harrison、Eric Clapton，包括 The Beatles 的〈I Need You〉、〈For You Blue〉、〈Something〉，Eric Clapton 的〈Pretty Girl〉、〈Wonderful Tonight〉、〈Never Make You Cry〉、〈Layla〉等經典歌曲都是為她而作。
Pattie Boyd 最先在披頭四1964年電影《A Hard Day’s Night》中亮相飾演女學生，這是她第一次遇見 George Harrison，兩人在1966年結婚。

Eric Clapton 在整理40週年紀念精裝版時，不因情已逝故意讓 Pattie Boyd 在封面藝術銷聲匿跡，反而加深「Layla」視覺，透過立體紙雕、紙卡、專輯等物件一再重複意象。
